Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about certification, membership, exams, and the talent network.
Certification
What is the difference between AIP and CAIP?
AIP (Associate in AI Proficiency) is the entry-level credential with no prerequisites. CAIP (Certified AI Professional) is the advanced credential requiring AIP certification plus 12 months of professional AI experience. CAIP tests at higher cognitive levels and includes more complex scenario-based questions.
Who is this certification for?
Non-technical professionals who use AI tools in their work. This includes sales professionals, marketers, HR practitioners, project managers, executives, consultants, and anyone whose role benefits from AI-augmented productivity. You do not need to be a developer or data scientist.
Is this certification vendor-specific?
No. AI Skills Network certifications are tool-agnostic. We test your ability to interact effectively with AI systems in general, not your knowledge of any specific product like ChatGPT, Claude, or Copilot.
How long is my certification valid?
Certifications are valid for two years. Renewal requires either completing continuing professional education (CPE) requirements or retaking the exam. Members in good standing have their renewal fee waived.
What happens if I fail the exam?
You may retake the exam after a 30-day waiting period. The full exam fee applies for each attempt. There is no limit on the number of retakes.
Membership
Do I need to be a member to take the exam?
No. Membership is optional but saves you money. Members pay $297 for AIP (vs $397) and $597 for CAIP (vs $747), and the $150 biennial renewal fee is waived. Membership pays for itself with one exam.
What does membership cost?
$197 per year. One tier, full access, no hidden fees.
Can I join after passing my exam?
Yes. You can join at any time. If you join after passing, your renewal fee will be waived at your next recertification cycle.
Exams
How is the exam delivered?
Online, with live proctoring. You take the exam from your own computer, monitored via webcam and screen share. Exams are available 7 days a week.
Can I use AI tools during the exam?
No. The exam tests your internalized knowledge and judgment about AI, not your ability to use AI in real-time. All external resources, notes, and AI tools are prohibited during the exam.
How long is the exam?
AIP is 120 minutes (75-90 questions). CAIP is 150 minutes (90-110 questions).
When will I get my results?
A preliminary pass/fail result is displayed immediately. Official score reports with domain-level breakdown are delivered within 5 business days.
Do you offer accommodations?
Yes. Contact us at least 30 days before your intended exam date to request accommodations for documented disabilities.

Is the talent network free?
For certified professionals, yes — creating a profile is included with membership. For employers, basic search is free; premium features will be available as the network grows.
Do I have to join the talent network?
No. Profile creation is optional. You can hold an active certification without appearing in the public directory.
